Champlin City Council Member Resigns Amid Tax Evasion Charges

Champlin City Council Member Tim LaCroix has resigned from his position following charges of felony tax evasion. LaCroix and his wife, Tina, were each charged with five felony counts of failing to file individual income tax returns and five counts of willfully failing to pay income tax. The couple is accused of owing approximately $35,000 in income taxes from 2019 through 2023.

LaCroix, who operated his own law practice, reportedly admitted to being overwhelmed by bookkeeping responsibilities, leading to the unintentional failure to file tax returns. His resignation was submitted to the city, and Mayor Ryan Sabas stated that the charges were a private matter and did not involve city resources.

In response to the vacancy, the City of Champlin has scheduled a special election for the Ward 4 Councilmember seat on November 3, 2026. Residents interested in running for the position are encouraged to visit the city’s official website for more information on the election process.
